TREATMENT OUTCOMES: COMPREHENSIVE PAIN TREATMENT PROGRAM

The Comprehensive Pain Treatment Program at NWOMC produces results.  A recent review of outcomes for a three year period (2002 to 2005) revealed:

PAIN INTENSITY:  Significant reduction from program entry to discharge, and from program entry to 6-week follow-up.*

PAIN INTERFERENCE:  Significant reduction from program entry to discharge, and from program entry to 6-week follow-up.*

MOOD DISTURBANCE (DEPRESSION):  Significant reduction from program entry to discharge, and from program entry to 6-week follow-up.*

CONTROL OF LIFE:  Significant improvement from program entry to discharge.*

DAILY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:  Significant increase from program entry to discharge, and from program entry to 6-week follow-up.*

REDUCTION OF ADDICTIVE PAIN MEDICATIONS:  76% of program participants reduced or eliminated addictive medications over the course of treatment.**

MINIMIZATION OF HEALTH CARE OVERUTILIZATION:  82% of program participants avoided any unnecessary doctor visits and health care utilization through 6-week follow-up.**

RETURN TO WORK:  92% of program participants were recommended for return to work, or for participation in an active vocational re-entry plan, at program discharge.**
